The laws in our
country relating to
media are almost
unrestricted. There
is little that
cannot be depicted
on television or
movies today. Moral
standards or a
concern for social
and physiological
health are almost
non-existent. It’s
all about making
money.
We are in a war for
the hearts and minds
of our family, our
friends, our
children, and our
country! This is not
a fight that can be
won with laws. We
need to meet the
world where they
are. The only thing
that we can do is
compete.
A real
problem needs a
real
solution
Current Christian
programming has been
almost exclusively
geared toward
teaching and
preaching. As a
result, the
Christian programs
that are available
now, appeal
primarily to
Christians, and do
not do much to
impact society as a
whole. What we
haven’t recognized
is that
entertainment
educates, and is
probably more
impactful than
direct teaching.
People learn from
watching other
people. They make
“friends” with the
characters they
watch and begin to
pick up ways of
thinking, or
wisdoms, by hanging
around with those TV
“friends”. If people
want to de-stress,
if they want to
relax and be
entertained, then
let’s give them an
alternative. If
every channel on
television showcases
programs that depict
sin as freedom, then
let’s have every
other channel depict
people living the
life of God.
With the financial
resources,
Christians could
purchase television
networks, or create
production companies
that hire excellent
writers and
well-known
celebrities. These
programs should be
high quality, funny,
or dramatic on the
same caliber as the
current programs.
The point is that
to touch the world
we have to be real!
We need to meet
the world where they
are, but show them
there is a better
way. Christian
programming can
depict Christians of
all stations in life
and show real life.
Life that people can
relate to. We can
depict the struggles
that all of us
encounter and God’s
answers to them. A
character may be
struggling with a
certain issue for a
few episodes and
then finally get the
revelation from the
Lord. We can base
these programs on
real Christians and
the things that they
have gone through
and ultimately the
glory that God
revealed in them.
There can be
programs about
Christian families
like the ABC family
channel’s Seventh
Heaven, but there
can also be programs
about twenty
something’s coming
out of drug
addiction and into
God’s light. There
should be diversity,
entertainment, and
relatability in
every program.
Another way to draw
attention to these
new Christian
networks is to
provide 100%
commercial free
viewing! That could
level the playing
field quickly! How
could any other
network compete with
ours if ours was
commercial free and
had excellent
programs?
Commercials are the
main funding source
for networks and the
production companies
who create
television
programming. Since
our funding will be
coming from the
consistent
electricity sales,
and there will be
very little overhead
for maintaining the
production of the
energy, there will
be a large margin of
profit and a steady
flow of it as well.
We would not need
any outside
advertising or
marketing dollars!
Therefore, no
commercials! If we
do make a
commercial, it will
be a commercial that
will run only on
other non-Christian
networks that will
advertise tuning
into our network,
that is commercial
free!
In the book of
Romans chapter
seven, Paul says
that the law helped
us see that we were
in sin, and grace
took us out of sin.
Much in the same
way, having
television
