that are filled with
purity and hope
contrasted with
today’s television
of sin and darkness,
will help to expose
the darkness. If
you are watching a
channel with a show
like Sex in The City
and then on a
commercial break,
switch over to a
show like Sharon in
the city (a
Christian
twenty-something
show), you will
immediately see the
stark contrast of
the two. It will
make the darkness
appear to be even
darker than before.
I believe that if
the shows are good
quality, that people
will prefer them to
their cynical and
jaded counterparts.
Television is the
main delivery system
for almost all other
forms of media. How
do you find out
about a new movie
that you want to
see? You watch a
movie trailer on
television. How
does a teenager find
out about a new
music band? They
watch MTV or see a
commercial.
Christ In The Movies
There is a new movie
coming out about the
African nation
Uganda and it’s
transition from an
evil dictatorship to
a proclaimed
Christian
government, starring
Denzel Washington,
Anthony Hopkins, and
Jennifer Garner.
It’s full of action,
drama, and most
importantly
Christianity! No,
not really, but I
got your attention
didn’t I? But there
could be such a
movie if the funding
was there. Or how
would you like to
see a comedy
starring Jim Carrey
about a guy with a
case of mistaken
identity and the mob
is after him, with
all of the
hysterical hyjinks
but with a Christian
message at the end?
Or maybe your
daughter would like
to see a movie
starring Lindsay
Lohan about a teen
who struggles with
rejection and
acceptance and finds
her way through with
the help of some
Christian friends?
All movies have a
message, whether
they are action,
drama, comedy or
family movies. It’s
the packaging that
makes us want to see
a specific movie.
Like, “Hey, I hear
that the new
Spiderman movie is
going to have some
amazing special
effects”. Or, “That
new comedy looks
hilarious.” Well,
we can do the same,
and have a good
message. No sex
scenes, no
unnecessary
vulgarity, no
graphic violence.
How many times have
you or anyone you
know, ever walked
out of the movie
theatre saying, “My
favorite thing about
the movie was that
they used the “F”
word fourteen
times”? Or, “I
didn’t really
believe that those
two people were in
love until I saw
that graphic sex
scene”? In fact,
most of us probably
enjoy a movie with
the exception of
those scenes. They
really don’t add to
the plot at all. It
almost seems that
these scenes are
being added
purposely to
desensitize us or
accustom us to these
behaviors.
So how about making
movies with all of
the best aspects,
leaving out all of
the worst? With the
funds to create big
ticket, blockbuster
movies, starring big
name actors, with a
positive message,
and no shocking
vulgarity, people
will be flocking to
the theatre to see
these films. If
people are choosing
to see these movies,
than they’re not
seeing the other
movies. That means
that we are not only
positively impacting
people, but we are
also pulling the
funding away from
films who choose to
add these
vulgarities. Thus
if the old way no
longer makes any
money, it can not
sustain its self,
and moviemakers will
have to adapt to
cleaner films in
order to just
survive! We could
change the way the
film industry makes
movies! Competition
drives betterment.
There was just never
anyone able to
compete with them
before now!
